Chapter Commentary - The Profits Have Spoken

This category contains song quotes that contain "wise advice" provided by our idols. What becomes apparent is that they are capable of suggesting a wide range of advice. Some of their advice can be trusted, while others cannot.

People in the United States use to have higher standards and expectations for themselves. Specifically, people use to look out for their neighbors well being. Gradually, over time we have begun to become a society of individuals primarily only looking out for our own self interests. Has society reached the point where we can no longer trust our neighbors anymore?

Part of this disturbing and growing trend in modern times is the mentality of winning at any cost. Whether it be entertainers, elected officials, special interest groups, advertising campaigns, lawyers, professional and collegiate athletes, and fans and supporters, many of society ignore the illegal, unethical, and immoral behavior of these figures all at the expense of winning.

The result has been growing public apathy and indifference which may be caused by the saturation of excessive number of scandals, desensitization and numbing to resistance, the cynicism resulting from abounding hypocrisy, or the greedy self reward of people who compromise their integrity to win at any cost.

Does standing up for principle no longer matter? Does the end justify the means?  Does winning without principle carry the same weight as winning with principle?
