    Chapter Commentary - Please Clarify Further

    This category contains such song quotes that are illogical, conflicting, incomplete, or just do not make sense. In effect, they need to be clarified further in order for it to make complete logical sense.

    To "clarify" previous comments made elsewhere, although much criticism can be aimed at the entertainment industry and the material that they throw at consumers, the bold truth remains that we, the consumers, provide the market and money for them for them to exploit by supporting them with the multi-billions of dollars we spend each year on their products. The real ability to control our future lies within ourselves with the decisions that we choose each and every day.

    Besides self-restraint, there are other legitimate proactive legitimate activities that one can partake in, such as: educating the public and increasing awareness; deterring investment in those companies that profit; challenging and encouraging certain entertainers to live up to their social and community responsibilities; partaking in letter writing campaigns, protests, and boycotts that result in public relation problems; and joining organizations and support networks that are committed to the same ideals.

    In addition, the road to creating positive lasting changes in your world does not end there. It is absurd and silly to blame the entire decline of modern civilization on the ills of the entertainment industry (just as it is equally absurd and silly to claim that music, movies, and TV play no part or have no effect on shaping society). Therefore, additional activities and initiatives that one can partake in to create positive change are:

    • Weaning our excessive indulgences by substituting them with more enriching activities like volunteering in the community, continuing one’s education, developing friendships, spending time with family and young people, exercising regularly, and developing hobbies and other interests;
    • Actively supporting organizations and community programs that have a positive impact on people’s lives;
    • Exercising your right to vote and supporting candidates and legislation at the local, State, and Federal level that represent your values and interests and actively hold officials accountable;
    • Most importantly, practicing what you preach, and routinely examining your life to make continuous improvements.
