Chapter Commentary - Pig Stew (Just Peal and Squeal)

This category contains song references to encounters with law enforcement authorities.

One of the more amazing modern cultural phenomena is how some individuals of society have become extremely apathetic or indifferent toward criminal behavior.  Their attitude is as long as it does not affect them, who cares about law, order, and justice?

Then there are those individuals that are sadistic and even root for the criminal, that criminals can be heroes somehow.  What if you or one of your loved ones was a victim, then would your attitude change?

Then there are those that justify their transgressions because they disagree with the laws. If someone does not like the existing laws, what are the procedures guaranteed to each citizen by our Constitution to change those laws? What would a world be like if minority opinion ruled or everyone just made up their own laws according to their own whims?

Many of the individuals who generate negative material justify their actions in the belief that they have been the victims or observers of some great injustice.  Maybe they have and are, but they need to understand the necessity that in order to build a better world it is essential to take these injustices and turn them into some type of positive action.  Two wrongs do not make a right, it only advances and contributes to the original injustice.

In addition, the honesty and integrity of their excuses and alibis are questionable, because many of their lyrics and behavior go way beyond the original crime in which they have been victimized.  Some of them appear to self-rationalize many of their actions with the sole intent of providing an excuse to self-indulge further without having to face any accountability to themselves or society.  After all, running away from one’s self, quitting, and self-indulging is easier than facing the truth, standing up to a challenge, and thinking of other people.

What would the world be like if there was no law and order?
