A majority of quotes from this collection of 13,000 song quotes are strictly from Rock and Roll songs. However, the collection also includes a large abundance of song quotes from other genres of contemporary music because: many different musical forms shape and influence Rock and Roll; Rock and Roll overlaps and crosses-over with many different forms of music; and other genre experience many of the same issues as Rock and Roll. Therefore, the book is not limited to just lyrics from Rock and Roll songs, but includes almost all forms of contemporary music. In addition, chapters/categories have been created to make the collection of over 13,000 song quotes more manageable for easier reference, and in some cases to add new utility.
When one has a collection of more than 13,000 quotes, the inevitable question is asked, what are the best song quotes of all time? This category attempts to identify the 100 Best song quotes of all time. It should be noted that the 100 Best are not ranked in order (other than alpha-numerically from the start of the quote). More than half of the song quotes in the 100 Best were commonly found song quotes that would reappear while performing research from different sources (i.e., internet home pages, music reviews, articles, and friend’s submissions). This type of approach was limited by the number of sources sampled and inherent bias of the sources.
The remaining song quotes in the 100 Best were personal favorites of the author. The criteria for personal favorites were its qualities for being amusing, unique, outrageous, reflective, artistic, influential, clever, fun, and any combination there-of. This differs slightly with some of the other songs included in the collection of 13,000, which include many overtly negative song quotes. Extra weight was given to those that had with stood the test of time and those that were more reflective in nature, perhaps indicating a new appreciation acquired during the exercise of collecting 13,000 quotes.
An option for generating a list of the 100 Best would have been to develop a list based on popular opinion and polling. But then again, this would have taken the personal enjoyment out of the exercise. Of course this leaves this author's list of 100 Best open to debate.
To settle this argument, the author would like to poll other enthusiasts of Rock and Roll to determine a consensus on the 100 Best song quotes of all time. If you would like to vote for the 100 Best or add song quotes to the collection of 13,000, then go here. This 100 Best will be updated periodically.
So, then what are the 100 Best song quotes of all time?
